A major €22m upgrade of the wastewater network in Farganstown, Navan, has begun, a project set to boost housing capacity and support economic growth in the area.

The works, which commenced in October 2025, include the construction of a new wastewater pumping station and 2.4km of sewer pipeline.

The project will increase the capacity of the existing network, enabling the short-term development of 1,600 new homes while also allowing for further long-term growth.

James Browne T.D., Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, welcomed the commencement of the “vital” work in the Farganstown area.

“The commencement of this project is very welcome news for the community in Farganstown, Navan,” he said.

“Improvements in the capacity of the wastewater network will bring tangible benefits and provide the required infrastructure to service existing and new developments in the area, including much-needed new housing.”

“Continued investment in public water services is essential to facilitating housing delivery. That is why in the recent Budget and through the National Development Plan we have increased Uisce Éireann’s funding to accelerate the delivery of water infrastructure and support the development of new homes across the country.”

Padraic Fitzgerald of Uisce Éireann added that the project will address current capacity constraints and unlock housing and economic potential in the area.

“We are working closely with developers to ensure the infrastructure is in place to enable the delivery of essential new homes for the community.”

The Farganstown Wastewater Network Upgrade is part of Uisce Éireann’s national Growth and Development Programme and is being carried out by GMC Utilities Group Ltd., with completion expected in late 2027.

Meanwhile, works are ongoing at the Navan Wastewater Treatment Plant, and construction of the new pumping station near St Mary’s Cemetery will begin in the coming weeks.

Pipelaying along the R153 Boyne Road is planned for next summer and will require localised road closures, with access for residents and emergency services maintained.
