Julianstown traffic ‘unsustainable for years’, says Meath councillor

Julianstown has been carrying an “unsustainable traffic burden” for years, a local councillor has said, as she urged residents across East Meath to take part in a public consultation on plans to address long-standing congestion in the area.

Fine Gael councillor Sharon Tolan is encouraging people living in Laytown, Bettystown, Mornington, Duleek, Drogheda and the wider East Meath area to complete an online survey being conducted by Meath County Council.

The consultation relates to the proposed Julianstown Traffic Relief Scheme, which aims to deliver a long-awaited solution to chronic congestion in the village.

The project is currently at a key stage, with community feedback set to directly influence the design and direction of the scheme.

“Julianstown has been carrying an unsustainable traffic burden for far too many years,” Cllr Tolan said.

“This consultation is a vital opportunity for residents, commuters, businesses and community groups to shape the future traffic solution for the village.”

“Every submission counts, and I am appealing to everyone with an interest in the area to take just a few minutes to complete the survey before the deadline.”

The survey forms part of efforts to identify and progress a viable relief option that addresses safety concerns, improves quality of life for residents, and supports the sustainable development of the East Meath region.

Cllr Tolan said a strong public response would be essential in ensuring the project continues to move forward.

“A strong response from the public will send a clear message that this project must continue progressing at pace.”

“This is our chance to make sure the lived experience of the community informs the final plans,” she added.

The survey is available through Meath County Council’s online consultation portal, with submissions accepted until March 30.
