Irish Cement reveals plans for ‘ground-mounted’ solar farm in Meath

Plans for a solar farm on agricultural lands in Duleek have been lodged to Meath County Council.
The proposed development by Irish Cement Limited will see the erection of a 19.48 MWp ground-mounted Solar Photovoltaic (PV) farm and would occupy approximately 22.35 hectares of land off Station Road, west of the existing cement facility and adjacent quarry.
According to the application, the solar farm would consist of south-facing photovoltaic panels mounted on fixed-tilt frames, supported by underground cabling and electrical infrastructure, including three transformer cabins and inverters.
The development also includes internal access tracks, a temporary construction compound, a set-down area, perimeter security fencing, and CCTV where required.
The generated power would be fed into the existing on-site substation at Platin Cement Works, enabling on-site consumption of renewable energy.
The site is set to span the townlands of Commons, Carranstown, and Platin, and would be accessed off the L1609 Station Road.
The application, submitted on November 4, is currently under consideration by Meath County Council.
