Have your say on new action plan for nature in Meath

Meath County Council is calling on residents to help shape the future of biodiversity in the county by participating in a public consultation on a draft plan.
Meath Biodiversity Action Plan 2025–2030. which is currently in its draft stage, outlines the council’s strategic approach to protecting and enhancing the county’s natural heritage over the next six years.
Developed in collaboration with the Biodiversity Working Group of the Meath Heritage Forum, the initiative aligns with the 4th National Biodiversity Action Plan, which requires all local authorities in Ireland to have Local Authority Biodiversity Action Plans (LABAPs) in place by the end of 2026.
The council began preparing its biodiversity action plan in 2024, following the appointment of a Biodiversity Officer through the Heritage Council’s Biodiversity Officer Programme. They aim to finalise the plan by the end of 2025.
Deputy Chief Executive of Meath County Council Fiona Lawless said: “These public consultations are a fantastic opportunity for the people of Meath to have their say on the actions we propose to take to enhance and protect our county’s biodiversity.
The public consultation will run from Tuesday, August 5 to Friday, September 5 at 5pm. During this period, members of the public are encouraged to engage with the process and share their views.
“Make sure you join the conversation as we look to set a positive trajectory for nature in Meath,” Ms Lawless added.
Members of the public can get involved by attending in-person or online information sessions hosted by Meath County Council, by submitting views via post, or by completing the online survey on the council’s website.
