Have your say on Meath’s new development plan

Meath County Council has begun the process of reviewing the current County Development Plan and preparing a new strategy to guide the future growth of the county.
The updated plan will set out policies on housing, infrastructure, environmental protection and community facilities, shaping how Meath develops over the coming decade.
The review is being carried out under the Planning and Development Act 2000 and will include several statutory assessments.
A Strategic Environmental Assessment will ensure that environmental considerations are fully integrated into the new plan, while an Appropriate Assessment will examine the potential impact on protected Natura 2000 sites.
A Strategic Flood Risk Assessment will also be undertaken to address flooding concerns in line with national guidelines.
To encourage public involvement, the council has published a Pre-Draft Strategic Issues Paper, which is available for inspection until Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Copies can be viewed at the council’s planning offices in Navan, in all municipal district offices and libraries, and online.
The council also confirmed that a series of public consultation events will take place, with details to be announced on their website.
Submissions and observations are now being invited from individuals, community groups and other stakeholders. They can be made online or in writing to the Planning Department before the November deadline.
The council added that zoning or rezoning requests cannot be considered at this pre-draft stage and will only be addressed later in the process when the draft plan is published.
All submissions will be made available for public viewing on the consultation portal once processed in line with data protection rules. They will also be included in the Chief Executive’s Report, which will be presented to elected members of Meath County Council.
