Four vacant homes in Meath to be acquired for social housing

Four vacant properties across Meath are set to be compulsorily acquired to bring them back into use as social housing.
Three of the properties are in Navan — 123 Canterbrook and 26 and 27 St Patricks Terrace — while the fourth is at 9 Francis Ledwidge Terrace, Slane.
The Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPOs), will now be submitted to An Coimisiún Pleanála for confirmation. If approved, Meath County Council will be authorised to take possession of the homes.
In Navan, 123 Canterbrook sits on approximately 0.108 hectares and is owned by Mary Doherty. 26 St Patricks Terrace covers 0.032 hectares and is owned by John Gilbride, while 27 St Patricks Terrace spans 0.036 hectares and is owned by John Armstrong.
The property in Slane, 9 Francis Ledwidge Terrace, occupies 0.04 hectares and is owned by John Smith and Helen Smith.
Maps of all four properties have been deposited at council offices for inspection: the Navan properties at Buvinda House, and the Slane property at Civic Offices in Duleek.
Owners, lessees, or occupiers can submit objections in writing to An Coimisiún Pleanála by Wednesday, 29 April 2026.
The Commission cannot confirm a CPO if an objection is lodged and not withdrawn, although it may hold an oral hearing at its discretion under the Planning and Development Act, 2000.
This move forms part of ongoing efforts to address housing needs in the county by bringing vacant homes back into use as social housing.
