Fire service warns of delays caused by ‘obstructive parking’ in Meath

Meath County Council Fire and Rescue Service has issued a warning to motorists after its response to a house fire in the Navan area was delayed due to “obstructive parking”.

The incident, which occurred this week, saw fire crews struggling to access the property because vehicles were parked in a way that restricted the road.

According to the council, the delay highlighted the risks “improperly” parked cars pose to emergency response times.

“Improperly parked vehicles can cause significant delays and hinder the rapid response of emergency services,” the council said.

They urged drivers to park “considerately” by leaving wide gaps on narrow streets, avoid blocking junctions, parking close to kerbs, and folding wing mirrors, ensuring that large vehicles like fire engines and ambulances can pass.

The council added: “Every second counts in an emergency.”
