Eastham Road in Meath to reopen as flood relief works near completion

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

The Eastham Road in Bettystown is set to reopen this Friday following the completion of major culvert replacement works, according to a local councillor.

Fine Gael Councillor Sharon Tolan said she met with the Meath County Council engineer overseeing the Eastham Road Project and the on-site contractor this week to review progress.

She confirmed that works are on schedule and that the reopening date remains unchanged.

The closure, in place since October 6 and scheduled to last until November 7, was required to facilitate the replacement of the Eastham Road culvert and the diversion of two watermains.

The project forms the final stage of the Northlands Flood Relief Scheme, which aims to reduce flood risk in the area after years of concern about storm damage and inadequate drainage.

Cllr Tolan welcomed the progress as “good news” and said: “Works are going according to plan and are on schedule...I know many of you will want to plan ahead, but I’m delighted to say that the Eastham Road, will be reopening this Friday.”
