East Meath groups to benefit from €285,000 in community funding

Almost €285,000 in funding has been awarded to community groups and organisations across East Meath under this year’s Indaver Community Grants Scheme, subject to formal approval by Meath County Council.
Fianna Fáil councillor and Indaver Community Liaison Committee member Stephen McKee welcomed the funding allocation, describing it as a significant boost for local clubs and voluntary organisations.
Among the largest allocations are grants for local sports clubs, with St Mary’s GFC and Duleek-Bellewstown GFC set to receive a combined €85,000 for projects at their grounds.
Duleek AFC Soccer Club has been awarded €40,000, while Drogheda Town FC will receive €18,000 towards the development of a training area and community walkway.
A range of other community groups are also set to benefit, including Duleek Drama Players, Julianstown Youth Orchestra, Duleek Senior Citizens, Donore & Rossnaree Parish Community Development Group and Duleek Heritage Group.
Funding has also been allocated to local schools, including Donore NS and Mounthanover NS, where projects will focus on upgrading play areas for children.
Cllr McKee said the fund is generated under planning conditions linked to the Indaver waste-to-energy facility, with a levy contributed to the local community for every tonne of waste processed.
“The fund is designed to provide financial assistance to local community-based clubs and voluntary organisations for the development of community projects and works in the locality,” he said.
While noting that demand for funding exceeds what is available, he said the scheme continues to play an important role in supporting grassroots initiatives.
“There is obviously a limited fund available and unfortunately not everyone can benefit this year, but I am pleased that so many local groups and organisations will benefit from the scheme. They make a huge contribution to our communities. I will continue to work hard on behalf of all our local groups,” Cllr McKee added.
