Drogheda Town FC to transform training grounds with new pitches and walkway

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

A football club is set to give its training grounds a major transformation after securing planning permission from Meath County Council.

Drogheda Town FC will see two brand-new natural grass football pitches installed on one of its junior pitches on Platin Road, complete with perimeter fencing and a ballstop netting system.

The project also includes a modern drainage system, the importation of soil by-product, and reseeding of the site, ensuring the pitches are in prime condition for training and matches.

The plans also feature a community walkway around the perimeter of the grounds and a dedicated biodiversity area.

Drogheda Town FC was founded in 1969 as Mosney Celtic. The club moved to its current home in Marian Park in 1984 and was renamed Drogheda Celtic. In 2001, Drogheda Celtic merged with West End to form the current Drogheda Town FC.

The club has continued to grow over the years. A juvenile section was established in 2006, and today the club fields two senior teams and ten juvenile teams.

In recent years, the club has expanded its kindergarten and academy sections, coaching more than 50 young players every weekend.
