The construction of a long-awaited new school building for Árd Rí Community National School in Navan is set to move forward if the project os granted planning permission next month by Meath County Council.

The application, submitted by the Louth and Meath Education and Training Board (ETB), proposes the development of a modern, split-level school at Baker Hall, Limekilnhill. Currently, the school operates from its educational headquarters at Balreask Old in Navan.

The proposed campus will feature a combination of single-storey and three-storey sections and is designed to meet the growing needs of the school community.

Plans include a comprehensive range of facilities such as general and specialist teaching spaces, a physical education hall, a Special Educational Needs (SEN) unit, a general purpose hall, library, social areas, administration offices, and various ancillary rooms.

The initial planning application was lodged in July 2024, with Meath County Council receiving further information last week. The proposal has drawn strong community support, particularly from parents and staff.

In March, the parents’ associations of Árd Rí CNS and neighbouring St. Ultan’s joined forces to launch a petition urging for the progress of the new school buildings. The petition gathered more than 1,000 signatures in just three days.

A final decision from Meath County Council on the planning application is expected by July 13.
