Council to roll out safety measures at Beamore Road in Meath

A series of road safety upgrades will be carried out at a high-risk junction in the coming weeks, a Meath councillor has said.

Meath County Council said that road safety improvement measures are scheduled to be undertaken on the Beamore Road at Beamore Cross and at Mounthanover Cross over the coming weeks.

This is in response to a Notice of Question tabled by South Drogheda and East Meath Fianna Fáil councillor Stephen McKee ahead of this week’s council meeting of Laytown-Bettystown Municipal District.

Safety at the Beamore road has been the focus of repeated safety complaints from local residents. Cllr McKee welcomed the announcement, saying it would be “good news” for the community.

“This will come as good news to local residents and indeed everyone who uses the Beamore Road,” he said.

“I have been raising road safety issues at Beamore Cross and Mounthanover Cross with Meath County Council over a period of time now, and I am happy to lead this charge on behalf of local people.”

The councillor said the Beamore Cross Safety Scheme is progressing through Phase 2, the option-selection stage.

Meanwhile, Mounthanover Junction has been included in the Council’s 2026 Safety Improvement Works grant application to the Department of Transport.

“Urgent action is needed as there are simply too many accidents happening on this stretch of road,” Cllr McKee said.

“The whole Beamore Road from Colpe to Platin needs to be a priority for road safety measures as it is very unsafe, and I am pleased that the Council are taking this seriously. I will keep the pressure on.”
