Council to review ‘ideal location’ for proposed playground in Meath

The plan for a new community playground in Donacarney will be reviewed by Meath County Council, following a motion brought forward by Fianna Fáil councillor Stephen McKee.

The 8-acre site under consideration is located beyond the Glenn Boann housing development on Church Road, close to Mornington Park, Maydenhayes, and Donacarney Wood.

Cllr McKee described it as an “ideal location” for a playground to serve the growing number of families in the area.

Meath County Council is also examining the feasibility of providing affordable housing on the same lands, with any progress to be reviewed in the new year depending on available resources.

Suggestions for recreational use, including the playground, will be considered alongside the broader project review.

Welcoming the council’s response, Cllr McKee said: “I am pleased that a motion I tabled at our most recent Council Meeting, calling for a playground to be built on Council-owned land in Donacarney, has been adopted by Meath County Council.

"This site is an ideal location for a local playground which is badly needed in the area to serve local families. I will continue to pursue this on behalf of local families,” he added.

At the December meeting of the Laytown-Bettystown Municipal District, councillors highlighted the absence of a public playground in Donacarney. At the time, the council said it had no funding to advance the project.

The lack of a playground has been a long-standing concern for local families, who have frequently raised the issue in light of the growing population of young children and limited nearby amenities.
