Council seeks to acquire vacant Meath house for social housing

Meath County Council has moved to acquire a vacant house in Meath for use as social housing.
The property located in Julianstown, Meath is the subject of a Compulsory Purchase Order which has now been sent to An Coimisiún Pleanála for confirmation.
If approved, the acquisition would allow the Council to bring the house, which sits on around 0.026 hectares of land, back into use.
Anyone affected by the order has the right to object. Written objections must be sent to An Coimisiún Pleanála before 5.30pm on Friday, October 17, 2025. Where objections are received and not withdrawn, the Board may hold an Oral Hearing before making its final decision.
A map of the property and full details of the order can be inspected at Meath County Council’s office in Navan and at the Laytown/Bettystown Municipal District office in Duleek during office hours.
The move is part of the local authority’s wider efforts to tackle the housing shortage by taking vacant properties back into use and making them available to people on the social housing list.
