Council launches Children’s Book Festival across Meath

Meath County Council has officially launched its annual Children’s Book Festival, with events planned in schools and libraries across the county this October.
The festival, Right Royal Read 2025, was unveiled in Slane Library by An Cathaoirleach, Cllr Wayne Harding (FF), who was joined by pupils from St Patrick’s National School.
It is being delivered by the council’s library service as part of its Right to Read programme, which promotes literacy and engagement with books among young people.
Running for three weeks from Wednesday, October 1, the festival will combine in-person and online events for primary schools across Meath.
Activities include author talks, comic book workshops, book-making sessions, and competitions.
Eileen McDermott, the council’s Right to Read coordinator, said the initiative is designed to support creativity and literacy among children.
“Whether it’s hearing an author tell a story, taking part in a comic book workshop, making your own books and stories in school, or getting involved in our competitions, the Children’s Book Festival is an opportunity to get all of us thinking, talking, and reading books,” she said.
The council added that schools have been booking into events throughout September, with details of the programme available on their website.
Residents are being encouraged to share their experiences of the festival on social media, tagging Meath Libraries, while further information is available by contacting childrensbookfestival@meathcoco.ie.
