Call to extend ‘See Something, Say Something’ text alert service to Meath

A new local safety initiative is set to be established in Meath later this year, councillors have been told.
At the September meeting of Meath County Council, officials confirmed that the Local Community Safety Partnership, which will include An Garda Síochána, is due to be set up before the end of the year.
The announcement followed a motion by Sinn Féin Councillor Edward Fennessy, who called on the Council to work with An Garda Síochána to bring the ‘See Something, Say Something’ text alert service to Meath.
In the Council’s response, they said the partnership will provide an “ideal forum” to roll out the ‘See Something, Say Something’ text alert service, allowing residents to report issues quickly and confidentially.
The service, already in operation elsewhere since 2018, enables the public to text details of illegal dumping, anti-social behaviour, and other incidents directly to the authorities. It is designed to support crime prevention and community safety efforts.
While the service is not yet available in Meath, residents can continue to report incidents through the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111 or by using Traffic Watch Online Reporting, which allows the public to raise road safety concerns.
