Building materials firm seeks approval for new ‘energy-efficient’ washing plant in Meath

By Sylvia Omorodion, Independent.ie

Plans for a new “energy-efficient” washing plant have been proposed for Meath.

Building materials firm Kilsaran Concrete Unlimited Company lodged a planning application with Meath County Council seeking permission for the construction of a washing plant capable of processing approximately 200,000 tonnes per year.

The facility, located at Tullykane Quarry, Kilmessan, is said to be designed to support the recovery of sand, gravel, and stone from imported waste and non-waste soil and stone materials, and will include all necessary supporting infrastructure and equipment, such as gantries, conveyors, washing systems, screeners, and sludge presses, along with associated ancillary works.

Plans also include the installation of a new weighbridge with a control office (approximately 20 sqm), a controlled access barrier, and a CCTV system to facilitate the internal queuing of heavy goods vehicles within the site.

As part of the proposal, revisions are being sought to the previously permitted restoration scheme, incorporating updated landform profiles that reflect the operational efficiencies of the new plant.

The revised restoration plan also features additional planting and biodiversity enhancements, aimed at restoring the site for future agricultural use.

The development would also include all associated ancillary and site works, both above and below ground level.

The application is currently under consideration by Meath County Council, with a decision expected in due course.
