Ashbourne to get 233 new homes with 431 car spaces and nearly 500 bicycle spaces

Plans for a large-scale housing development in Ashbourne, Co Meath have been given the green light, allowing for more than 200 new homes in the rapidly growing commuter town.
The scheme, lodged by ARNUB Limited last September, will see the construction of 233 units on a site of approximately 5.8 hectares at Baltrasna.
Approved on March 13, the development will comprise a mix of housing types, including terraced and semi-detached houses, duplexes and apartments, in buildings ranging from two to three storeys in height.
The plans include 195 houses, consisting predominantly of three-bedroom homes, alongside a smaller number of four- and five-bedroom properties.
This will also include 38 duplexes and apartments that will be delivered across four three-storey buildings, each with private balconies, terraces or patios.
The site is located to the west of the Dublin Road (R135), close to existing residential areas including The Briars, and adjacent to a separate permitted development currently under construction.
As part of the scheme, more than 7,600 sq m of public open space and over 300 sq m of communal open space will be provided, alongside extensive landscaping works.
Meanwhile, a total of 431 car parking spaces and 496 bicycle parking spaces are also included.
The project will require the demolition of an existing single-storey dwelling and associated outbuildings on the site.
Access to the development will be via Cherry Lane, which connects to the Dublin Road, while a separate pedestrian and cyclist entrance is planned from Hickey’s Lane.
An Environmental Impact Assessment Report and Natura Impact Statement were submitted as part of the application.
