‘Alternative’ drinking water made available for Meath residents following water disruption

Residents in Trim and surrounding areas are facing disruptions to their water supply today and tomorrow after a mechanical fault at the Trim water treatment plant overnight “seriously” depleted reservoir levels.
Uisce Éireann said it is now working to repair the issue, but households and businesses in Trim, Rathmolyon, Knightsbrook, Scurlockstown, Effernock, Carberstown, Clonbun, Blackfriary, Crowpark, Summerhill, and surrounding areas may experience intermittent outages while the reservoir refills and the network stabilises.
To support residents during the outage, alternative water supplies will be available at Lidl and Trim County Council Offices on Summerhill Road, as well as in Summerhill beside the Church Car Park, until 9 a.m. on September 18.
Meanwhile, residents are reminded to bring their own containers and, as a precaution, to boil the water before drinking.
Michael Cunniffe, Uisce Éireann Water Operations Manager, said: "Uisce Éireann acknowledges the inconvenience caused by an unplanned interruption to the water supply and sincerely thanks our customers for their patience and cooperation while the essential repair work is carried out and the reservoir recharges."
He added that “every effort to ensure that the alternative drinking water supply provided, including the tanker/bowser and dispensing tap, is adequately disinfected.”
"However, as it is not practical to provide sterilised containers for the public to transport water from the tanker to their homes, we cannot guarantee that any containers used by the public will not impact or contaminate the drinking water.”
