All you need to know about the community based funding for projects in Meath’s Carranstown District

Community groups in east Meath are being encouraged to apply for funding under the Carranstown Environmental Projects Grant Scheme, which has opened for 2026 applications.
The scheme, operated by Meath County Council in partnership with the Indaver Waste-to-Energy Facility at Carranstown, supports local environmental improvements and community-based recreational projects in the vicinity of the plant.
Targeted at what is officially defined as the “Carranstown District,” it covers townlands in the Duleek area as well as locations along the haul routes serving the Indaver facility.
While priority is given to projects within the mapped district and the shaded proximity zone on the official map, the council said applications from outside the area may also be considered at its “absolute discretion,” depending on community significance and the overall level of available funding.
The scheme supports two broad categories of works. The first includes environmental and amenity projects in public open spaces, such as tree and shrub planting, the creation of wildlife areas, heritage and restoration initiatives, the installation of seating or picnic facilities, signage improvements and general public space enhancement.
Funding may also be provided for equipment used in environmental maintenance and protection.
The second category focuses on community and recreational activities, including upgrades or maintenance of community-owned facilities, community weeks or festivals, youth and sports projects, local newsletters and publications, social inclusion initiatives, technical assistance, feasibility studies, training programmes and community games events.
The scheme also allows groups to seek matching funds needed to access national programmes such as the Sports Capital Programme.
The grant is open to community groups, residents’ associations, Tidy Towns committees, youth organisations, sporting bodies, charities working within local communities and parents’ associations involved in extra-curricular community activities.
Application forms, guidelines and maps of the defined area are available from Meath County Council. The closing date for receipt of applications is 5pm on Friday, January 23rd, 2026.
