An age-friendly housing development in Meath is aiming for national glory.

Yellow Ford in Athboy has been shortlisted in the Housing with Supports category at the ICSH Community Housing Awards 2025.

The awards, organised by the Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH), recognise innovation and excellence in housing projects across Ireland.

This year, all shortlisted projects are also competing in the Public Choice Award 2025, allowing members of the public to vote for their favourite development.

Designed and delivered by Meath County Council, the Yellow Ford scheme was completed in August 2024 and provides 28 homes for people aged over 55.

The development includes a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom houses and apartments, catering to a range of households from single occupants to couples and families.

Located on a greenfield site beside a former convent—now a community centre—the project is at the heart of Athboy, with easy access to local services, amenities, playing fields, and landscaped areas.

The homes were built with age-friendly and universal design principles, featuring single-storey layouts, accessible bathrooms, and level-access wet rooms.

Meanwhile outdoor spaces is said to be designed to encourage activity and social interaction for residents.

With public voting now open, Meath County Council is encouraging people to support Yellow Ford by casting their vote before the deadline on October 13, 2025.
