€25,000 allocated for upgrades to Meath coastal swimming facilities

Residents and visitors to Laytown, Bettystown, and Mornington in Meath can look forward to improved seaside facilities following the announcement of a €25,000 funding allocation under the Government’s Outdoor Swimming Fund.
The investment will support the installation of new infrastructure designed to enhance accessibility and comfort for beachgoers.
Planned works include the installation of two beach shelters featuring mural artwork, five new noticeboards, 20 tow floats, 20 swim socks, 20 pairs of gloves, as well as upgrades to public toilets, showers, and foot wash stations. Site preparation works will also be carried out across the three beaches.
Welcoming the announcement, Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee said: “I warmly welcome this allocation of government funding under the Outdoor Swimming Fund.”
"This funding will make our local beaches more accessible, particularly for people with reduced mobility, and will build on the progress made since the scheme was introduced in 2024.”
Fine Gael Councillor Sharon Tolan also expressed her enthusiasm for the funding, highlighting the growing popularity of open-water swimming along the Meath coastline.
“I am delighted to share the news that €25,000 in funding has been allocated for additional outdoor swimming facilities along the Meath coastline,” she said.
“Swimming is a great activity for all ages and abilities, and the social aspect that has seen really lovely community groups established at our beaches has been wonderful to witness over the past few years.
“I will be working hard with Meath Local Sports Partnership and Meath County Council to deliver more and better facilities for all.”
The Outdoor Swimming Fund aims to promote healthy, inclusive, and sustainable recreational opportunities across Ireland’s coastal and inland swimming locations.
