Foxford Traditional Weekend returns to the Mayo town this October, showcasing world-class musicians, singers, and dancers in a four-day celebration of Ireland’s rich traditional culture.

From Thursday, October 16, to Sunday, October 19, Foxford will come alive with the sounds of traditional music and the charm of Irish dancing, as the community gathers to celebrate its heritage.

Generations of tradition will come alive, with activities and performances designed to cater for all ages.

Weekends like this play a vital role in preserving Irish heritage, ensuring that age-old traditions, music, and dance are passed down to younger generations and kept alive.

Festival director Stephen Doherty said Foxford has always had music at its heart: “This festival is about celebrating that tradition while inspiring the next generation. We are proud to welcome such an incredible line-up of artists and to create a space where community, culture, and creativity thrive side by side.

The celebrations begin on Thursday, with the rambling house, a traditional Irish social gathering where people come together to share music, song, dance, and storytelling.

On Friday, the headline show will feature The High Seas, an award-winning group of musicians who have represented Irish culture around the world through song and dance.

Members Caitlín Nic Gabhann, Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, Cathal Ó Curráin, and John Mulholland will be joined by Seoda, the winners of Siansa Gael Linn.

On Saturday, Harp Day will be celebrated in partnership with Harp Ireland and Music Generation Mayo, and a Mummers’ parade will make its way through Foxford’s Main Street.

The events continue through the night on Saturday, with the Féile concert starring The Smyth Family, The Achill Lads, and Alannah Thornburgh, who was named RTÉ’s 2025 Folk Musician of the Year.

On the final day, family events, including Trad for Tots, will take place, and traditional music sessions will be held in the Moy Hotel, showcasing local young talent.

Throughout the weekend, the session trail will keep music flowing through Foxford’s pubs and public spaces.

Maureen Noone, owner of the Moy Hotel, said she is proud to see the festival grow every year: “This year’s programme is one of our biggest yet, with 45 events taking place across the four days.

“The atmosphere in the town is always incredible, and it’s wonderful to see both locals and visitors come together to share in the joy of traditional music.”

Brought to life by a dedicated volunteer committee, the Foxford Traditional Weekend offers a wonderful opportunity for Foxford and its surrounding towns to showcase the rich local talent while celebrating and promoting Ireland’s cultural heritage.
