Mayo-founded Corrib Oil to create 50 jobs with new Ballina store

By Charlotte Davis, Irish Independent

Mayo-founded food and fuel retailer Corrib Oil has announced its plans to open a new convenience store and service station along the Killala Road in Ballina.

The new location, which will be the company’s 42nd store nationwide, is set to open in early summer and will create 50 full and part-time jobs for the area.

Gillian Morris, Head of Retail at Corrib Oil, described the announcement as “very positive news for Ballina and for Mayo.”

She confirmed a dedicated recruitment campaign has been launched to “build a strong local team” for the new store.

The company is encouraging people across Ballina and the wider Mayo area to apply for roles ranging from management positions to deli and retail assistant jobs.

The development will feature a full Corrib Deli counter alongside a convenience retail store.

A large solar panel system will be installed on the roof and canopy of the building, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.

Electric vehicle charging will also be available on site, along with various fuel types including HVO and AdBlue, which will be available both on the main forecourt and at a dedicated truck stop pump. A truck fill pump will also be installed on site.

Ms Morris continued saying that Corrib, which was originally founded in Claremorris, Mayo in 1987, said the company was proud to be expanding its retail network in the county.

“The Killala Road location will deliver 50 new jobs and a high-quality retail and forecourt offering for the local community and passing traffic alike,” she said.

"Corrib Oil is a growing Irish business, and we are committed to creating long-term employment opportunities within the communities we serve.”

Corrib Oil currently employs approximately 1,300 staff across Ireland. Last year the company announced its plans to expand to 100 stores by 2030.

These plans will see Corrib Oil create 1200 new roles on top of their existing workforce.

As the Mayo-based business continues to expand, it also launched a partnership in 2024 with American fast-food chain Wendy's to open ten locations across Ireland by 2027. This collaboration is expected to create a further 300 jobs.

In February 2026, Corrib Oil announced the opening of its second Wendy’s restaurant in Tullamore, County Offaly.

The first Irish Wendy’s location opened in October 2025 at Mahon Point Shopping Centre in Cork.
