By Charlotte Davis, Independent.ie

Gardaí have arrested and charged a man in his 40s as part of ongoing investigations into burglary and related crimes in north Mayo.

The arrest was carried out by members of the Ballina Detective Unit in Dublin.

He was subsequently brought to a Garda Station in County Mayo where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The individual has since been charged in connection with the investigation and is due to appear before a sitting of Belmullet District Court on Wednesday, January 14.

Gardaí have said that investigations are ongoing.

The arrest follows an appeal for witnesses dating back to Monday, August 25, 2025, where a burglary was carried out in Foxford, County Mayo in the early hours of that morning.

Gardaí received a report that at approximately 4.15am two masked men had forced entry into O’Hara’s Centra in Foxford and fled with a quantity of cigarettes.
