Louth County Council have responded to calls for a broken tap at Templetown beach to be fixed.

Councillor, Antoin Watters highlighted the facilities at the popular north Louth beach, saying that he had numerous calls from the public about the tap no longer working.

"The council have informed me that they have replaced it five times this year, and it has been broken off every time. The tap then causes the area to flood, so they are understandably reluctant to keep replacing it.”

He added that the tap is “of great use to all beach users, and it is sad that those who abuse it have now left them without the use of it.”

Cllr. Watters added that he had reached out to the local authority asking for the tap to be replaced again.

"With the busiest season approaching, it is important that we as a community look after the resources and highlight any misuses. If not, they will no longer be available.”

The Argus contacted Louth County Council for an update. A spokesman confirmed the local authority are arranging for the tap to be fixed, and a protective guard placed around it in order to prevent further damage.
