Louth County Council is set to roll out 32 new social housing units in Drogheda, with the homes due to go live for bidding on the local authority’s Choice Based Letting (CBL) portal in the coming weeks.

At the March meeting of the Drogheda Borough District, council officials confirmed that a mix of properties at the Boice Court development will be made available to applicants currently on the social housing waiting list.

Senior Engineer Declan Grimes told councillors that the new units are expected to be advertised during the week of St. Patrick’s Day. He said the homes include a broad range of property types to meet varying needs within the community.

“It is a variety of two, three and four‑bedroomed units,” Mr. Grimes said, adding that the development features bungalows, two‑storey houses, and apartments. He told members that the housing section would continue to provide updates as the rollout progresses.

The meeting also heard that a number of the newly built bungalows will be allocated through a social worker to applicants with specific needs.

The new homes are part of a €27m construction project at Boice Court (Phase 2) which began in 2023, and when complete will deliver 72 new social houses, funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

The overall design features a total of 31 houses, 25 apartments and 16 duplex units. A further two three bed-detached bungalows, designed with input from HSE Occupational Therapists are set to be included along with 10 two-bed accessible ground floor apartments designed with the needs of older people in mind.
