The tragic deaths of three members of the O’Connor family who were “murdered in their home” has “cast a massive shadow” on communities in mid-Louth.

These were the words of Cllr. Pearse McGeough who proposed a vote of sympathy to the family at the October meeting of Louth County Council.

He said the murders had impacted people across the villages of Drumgowna, Stonetown, Tallanstown, Louth village “and further afield.”

"It is such a tragic event and I want to offer sympathy the O’Connor family and friends.”

Cllr. Maeve Yore joined the expressions of sympathy, saying: “They were fabulous people.”

She added: “The social contract in this country is broken. We have to do something more for people with mental health and addiction issues, and especially for families with people who have special needs, as they are all under a lot of pressure.”

Louise O'Connor (56), her husband Mark O'Connor (54) and their 27-year-old son Evan O'Connor were found dead at their Drumgowna home on September 29 last.

Robert O'Connor, (31) Drumgowna, Louth Village has been charged with murder, and remains in custody.
