It just might be the most closely watched bridge building project in Ireland, and now a dedicated website has been launched to keep us up-to-date on every stage of the Narrow Water Bridge construction.

Work has been steadily progressing on the new bridge which will be the first to span Carlingford Lough, directly linking County Louth and County Down.

A dedicated new website www.narrowwaterbridge.com, has been developed by Louth County Council to provide comprehensive information on one of the most significant cross-border infrastructure projects in the country.

Key features of the website include: Updates on key events and milestones, where viewers can track construction progress and see project timelines; technical insights, such as details of the bridge’s design, including it’s two-span cable-stayed structure and navigational features and; traffic management - where up-to-date details on traffic arrangements during construction will be shared, as well as navigation controls on the waterway.

The website explores the impact the bridge will have on the local community and the tourism sector, with details on how the project will strengthen cross-border links and enhance the Carlingford Lough area as a tourism destination.

It will also provide access to high-quality imagery, recent news, and official announcements.

The Narrow Water Bridge is a landmark cross-border infrastructure project to link the Cooley Peninsula and the Mourne Mountains, providing huge tourism and connectivity boosts for the region and enabling cross-border active travel and recreation.

Construction commenced in May 2024 and is to be finished by the end of 2027. When complete, the 195-metre, two-span, cable-stayed bridge will span the narrowest point of Carlingford Lough, connecting Cornamucklagh near Omeath in Louth, with Narrow Water, just outside Warrenpoint in County Down.

David Conway, Chief Executive of Louth County Council, said: “The Narrow Water Bridge is one of the most significant cross-border infrastructure projects in recent decades, and we are delighted to launch a dedicated website to keep the public informed. www.narrowwaterbridge.com will serve as a central hub for timely updates, key milestones, and insights into the progress of this transformative initiative. We encourage everyone to visit the site and follow the journey as we work together to deliver lasting economic and social benefits for the region.”

“Visit www.narrowwaterbridge.com to learn more about a transformative project that is a symbol of peace and cooperation in the region, representing decades of advocacy from local communities.”
