New affordable homes in Louth could be €240k for eligible buyers
The Drogheda IndependentAffordable homes in a new housing development in Ardee could be available to eligible buyers for around €250,000, local councillors heard at the monthly municipal district meeting.
Councillors welcomed news from Louth County council that funding has been approved for the affordable housing scheme at Quarry Court, John Street, Ardee.
The scheme will have 11 three-bedroom houses available for sale, along with nine one-bed and two-bed apartments.
John Lawrence, Senior Executive Officer, Louth County Council, told the meeting that an open day will be held on site led by the assigned estate agent.
He added that an advertising and media campaign will commence in the coming weeks with the application portal expected to open by mid-September.
"Once the portal opens it will be on a first come, first served basis,” said Mr. Lawrence.
He added that it was crucial for people who are interested in buying to already have mortgage approval in principle.
The meeting heard that the houses are priced in a range between €340,000 to €360,000, but if buyers are eligible under the Affordable Housing Scheme, and for ‘Help to Buy’ schemes the cost could be reduced to around €240,000 to €260,000
“There is no doubt that these houses will represent a significant saving for buyers,” he said.
Located at the junction of John Street and Stoney Lane, and close to Ardee town centre, the development was built by Currabeg Construction and consists of 20 new homes, which are all A2-rated and highly energy efficient.
The scheme was officially opened by Jack Chambers TD, Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform & Digitalisation in June.
