By Francis Carroll, Irish Independent

A 38-year-old man stole a phone from a sleeping woman in a hospital waiting room, the district court has been told.

A plea of guilty was entered on behalf of Joseph Clinton, Moneymore, Drogheda, to the offence which occurred on January 15, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdres Hospital.

Evidence was given that at 5.20am the defendant entered the A&E Department waiting room and sat beside the woman before reaching inside her handbag and taking a €300 Samsung Galaxy phone.

Mr Clinton, who was not present when the case was called, has 31 previous convictions.

Judge Nicola Andrews told his solicitor that he must come back to court on June 22 with €300 or “I will put him in prison”.
