Louth councillors will have to decide if Gareth Sheridan can be considered for nomination at a special meeting taking place this evening.

Mr. Sheridan was one of three prospective presidential candidates, also including Keith McGrory and Nick Delehanty, to have received the requisite support from councillors.

All three candidates were required to submit documentation including a copy of a valid passport, to confirm age and Irish citizenship no later than 12:00 noon on Friday, 19th September 2025:

They also had to submit a biographical statement for councillors’ consideration.

But, doubt has been cast over whether Mr. Sheridan had submitted his documentation on time.

A spokesperson for Louth County Council said: “Candidates were advised that should they not submit the documentation by the stipulated deadline they would not be permitted to present to the members. As of 12:00 noon on Friday, 19th September, both Mr McGrory and Mr Delehanty submitted the required documentation.

Mr Sheridan did not submit the required documentation by the stipulated deadline and was subsequently advised that his participation in today’s meeting could no longer be accommodated.”

Information which was submitted by Mr Sheridan after the deadline had passed, will now be considered by councillors at tonight’s special meeting.
