The demand for Affordable Housing schemes is on the rise in Louth as house hunters chase alternative, less expensive options to buying their own home.

Louth County Council this week revealed a number of affordable schemes have been completed across the county, with several more in the pipeline.

In Drogheda, there are eight units available at Seven Winds, which led to 130 applications from potential buyers.

The local authority confirmed they expect all eight units to be sold.

Meanwhile, in Ardee, the Quarry Court development brought 11 units on to the market under an Affordable Housing Scheme.

Potential buyers at the Ardee development were told they must have mortgage approval to be considered.

There were 50 applications for the scheme when it closed on November 3rd, and Louth County Council told independent.ie that they anticipate all 11 units will be sold.

In 2025, the council also completed an eight unit affordable scheme in Ballymakenny Park, Drogheda.

Over the coming months the local authority, in collaboration with developers, expect to run the Affordable Housing schemes at St. Fursey’s, Dublin Road, Dundalk (8 units), Bay View, Red Barns Road, Dundalk (6 units), Ushers Mill, Drogheda (10 units), Dowdall’s Court, Dundalk, and Bruach Na hAbhann, Dundalk, where the number of units have yet to be confirmed.
