Green light for Louth pier repairs as project goes to tender

Long-awaited repair works at one of County Louth’s most popular coastal locations are set to move forward, with the Gyles Quay pier project due to go to tender in the coming days.
The north Louth landmark has suffered significant damage in recent years as a result of repeated severe weather events, along with ongoing wear and tear. Plans to restore and secure the structure have been under discussion for some time.
Local councillor Antoin Watters has now confirmed that the project has reached a key milestone.
“I’m pleased to confirm that works at Gyles Quay are due to go out to tender next week, which marks an important step forward for these much-needed repairs,” he said.
Cllr Watters highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting that the pier has sustained “significant structural damage caused by storms and years of general wear and tear.”

He recently met with the engineer overseeing the project to review the plans and discuss delivery timelines. “The project will involve substantial works to both the pier itself and the adjoining back wall,” he said.
Subject to funding approval and the successful completion of the tender process, construction works are expected to begin within the next three to four months.
