Louth County Council has announced plans to install 41 new mobility hubs across Dundalk and Blackrock as part of a major active travel and shared‑mobility pilot project for the area.

The proposed works include the installation of mobility facilities offering access to e‑bikes, e‑scooters and electric vehicle charging points at locations throughout the Dundalk Local Area Plan boundary. The initiative aims to enhance sustainable transport options and improve connectivity across the town.

Each mobility hub will include new infrastructure such as bicycle stands, e‑scooter parking stands, information poles, dropped kerbs, road markings and small sections of footpath where required. Six of the sites will also receive EV charging stations with up to two 22kw plugs available at each location.

The works are planned for a wide range of public spaces and community locations, including Market Square, Aura Leisure Centre, DKIT, Tom Bellew Avenue, St Helena’s, Blackrock seaside, Ramparts Car Park, Barrack Street Car Park, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and several residential estates and local parks.

The council confirmed that it has completed both Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA) screenings for the project. It concluded that the development is not likely to have significant environmental effects and will not adversely impact any conservation sites.

Plans for the mobility hubs can be viewed at Louth County Council’s offices in Dundalk or online via the consultations portal at www.louthcoco.ie

Submissions or observations on the proposal—labelled “National Mobility Hubs Pilot – Dundalk”—may be lodged until 5pm on Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
