Boyne Greenway to be extended along north bank after €500,000 investment
The Drogheda IndependentThe Boyne Greenway is set for a €500,000 boost with plans to extend and enhance the North Bank of the popular Drogheda walkway.
The Louth riverside destination was one of 63 projects located across every county in Ireland to have benefitted from the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).
Investment in recreational facilities such as walking trails, cycleways, water-based amenities and mountain access routes have all been prioritised in this latest round of funding.
The scheme provides funding of up to €500,000 for strategic repair and maintenance of existing facilities together with the development of new recreational infrastructure.
The news was welcomed by Drogheda Borough District at their November meeting, where Cllr. Paddy McQuillan said it was “fantastic to see investment in the Boyne Greenway.”
Works will specifically focus on enhancement and extension of the North Bank of the Greenway including widening, resurfacing and relining of paths and installation of lighting.
