Road sinking in Laois housing estate causing flooding problems

A road in a Laois estate is sinking which is causing issues with flooding, according to a local councillor.
Councillor Aisling Moran called on Laois County Council to alleviate the flooding in Cill An Oir housing estate in Graiguecullen at the recent meeting of the Graiguecullen/Portarlington MD.
The local councillor explained to the council that the road seems to be sinking outside two houses in the estate.
The issue has been brought up by Cllr Moran twice previously, including last year and the year before.
“The road is sinking so the water is gathering there and I know that there could be a blockage in the drain as well,” Cllr Moran said at the meeting.
Emphasising the urgency of the issue, Cllr Moran said: “Where it is sinking it floods so when people come out of their houses their cars are actually submerged in water.”
Laois County Council said that they will assess the drainage and surfacing issues with a view to carrying out repairs in the interim.
An investigation will be carried out of the existing pipe network with pipe jetting works likely required to be carried out.
Senior Executive Engineer for the Graiguecullen/Portarlington MD, Tom Drennan, said that an investigation will be carried out to examine the extent of the issues in the coming weeks.
He informed Cllr Moran that the council will seek to repair what can be repaired.
