Coffee dock on the cards for historical Laois landmark

By Sandra Malone, Leinster Express

A coffee dock may be on the cards for the site of a historical Laois landmark.

Laois County Council has invited expressions of interest from experienced coffee and food service providers for a new coffee unit at the Rock of Dunamase.

The new visitor carpark and toilet facilities opened at the site in recent months.

Funding of €1,797,894 was approved under the EU Just Transition Fund for the project which delivered 40 new parking spaces, a disabled space, two bus parking bays, and toilet facilities.

Laois County Council also installed interpretive and visitor information signage at the site.

The new carpark and toilet facilities are expected to boost visitor numbers to the Rock of Dunamase which attracted 43,824 visitors to the site last year.

Now, the Council is seeking interested parties to establish a “professionally fitted portable coffee unit” at the new carpark.

The Council said: “The unit will provide visitors, walkers, tourists, families and the local community with quality coffee, refreshments and light food, while complementing the visitor experience and historic character of this landmark site.”

Anyone interested is asked to submit their Expression of Interest by next Tuesday, October 20. Submissions should be sent to [email protected] .
