Seven new electric charging points are set to be installed in a Kerry tourist town as the infrastructure is rolled out across the county.

The new points will be installed at the Kenmare library, with construction expected to commence in Q3 of this year.

There are already 23 charging points at various different locations across the Kenmare Municipal District.

An Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy is currently being prepared for Kerry and Cork through a partnership approach between Kerry County Council, Cork County Council and Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland.

This strategy is being developed as part of the National EV Charging Network Plan.

Kerry ranked first nationally last year in terms of the availability of EV charging infrastructure for zero emissions vehicles.

Kerry had 174 public EV chargers, averaging one for approximately six Battery Electric Vehicles in the county, according to data from Geotab - a global leader in connected transportation solutions.

This put Kerry top of the table ranking slightly ahead of Longford (5.93) and Mayo (6.61).
