‘Shocking’ design of Kerry town’s footpaths causing ambulance call-outs claims councillor
The KerrymanA Kerry councillor has slammed the “shocking” design of footpaths in Killarney after numerous ambulance call-outs for falling pedestrians.
Councillor Niall O’Callaghan highlighted the number incidents on College Street and its taxi rank, saying they were due to poor design.
“The amount of call-outs from elderly people falling off the footpaths…I’ve seen it myself so I’m not making it up,” said Mr O’Callaghan.
“The footpath going into the Clolege Street Car Park is an absolute disgrace in both entrances, its shocking.”
He said he had spoken to an ambulance driver who had confirmed the regularity of call-outs to Killarney for related incidents.
Cllr O’Callaghan urged the council to carry out a survey of footpaths in town and consider adding markings on the path to delineate steps and make them more visible to pedestrians.
Another issue the councillor highlighted was taxis reversing into the taxi rank and parking just over the footpath, causing people to trip on the toe bar.
“And there’s other places around town, the footpaths are definitely not good enough,” said Mr O’Callaghan.
