It’s been two years since Kerry County Council revamped its punitive list of derelict sites, writing off €655,000 in unpaid levies due to errors in internal files.

With the Derelict Sites Register now containing over 80 properties, The Kerryman has compiled the full list of the sites, with a brief investigation of each.

This article covers the Kenmare Municipal District which currently has 12 sites listed.

A derelict site is defined as any that is in such bad condition that it takes away from the character, look or amenities of the area it is located in.

Local authorities are mandated to keep a register of all derelict sites, and any site that is placed on the register is subject to a levy of 7pc of the land’s value.
