Killarney town road won’t last through summer says councillor
The KerrymanA Kerry councillor has slammed the condition of a road in Killarney town, warning the stretch won’t last through the summer.
Councillor Brendan Cronin said the surface of St Margaret’s Road has ‘deteriorated completely’ and wouldn’t last past July.
At a recent Killarney Municipal District meeting, Cllr Cronin requested that works be carried on the road in Killarney town which sees an ‘unbelievable’ amount of traffic.
He pointed to 200m of the road which was in a ‘really bad state’, which he said needed completely resurfaced.
“Something has got to be done with this,” he said.
“This is more than just a pothole, the surface has deteriorated completely.”
The council said the road was currently on the reserve list of their three-year road restoration programme and works would likely take place next year, but they would continue to maintain in the meantime.
Cllr Cronin also asked about the provision of a footpath between Coollegrean Park and Ballydowney roundabout.
The council said they had applied development levies to a recent planning application which would provide for active travel facilities.
