Killarney poised for housing development as 4,000 new units made available
The KerrymanLand has been provisioned for over 4,000 housing units in Kerry, following the adoption of Killarney Municipal District’s (MD) variations to the county development plan.
The new plan has zoned around 95 hectares of proposed residential land in the MD, equivalent to 4,415 units, with 75 hectares set aside for employment use-types.
It follows the adoption of Tralee MD’s variations which bring the total new land available for development up to around 8,000 units.
Kerry County Council chief executive Fearghal Reidy took the moment to thank the councillors and the Killarney team for their work in progressing the plans.
“Part of variations in the development plan which will significantly enhance the attractiveness and capacity of Kerry to increase housing supply,” he said, “as part of an overall plan that we’re working on to advance housing development across the county.”
Mr Reidy further highlighted that Kerry is “well ahead” of schedule with all its MD variation plans, emphasising the “commitment” it shows of Kerry County Council to achieve their housing targets.
The approved plan will now be submitted to the housing regulator.
