Kerry is set to come alive this autumn as Halloween brings festivity and folklore to the county’s towns and villages.

Running from the October 16 to the November 9, Samhain Chiarraí will celebrate the county’s ancient traditions with rituals, street processions and family activities.

With new funding from Fáilte Ireland’s ‘Home of Halloween’ pilot scheme, the programme will include three new Samhain experiences in Tralee, Killarney and Listowel.

The events will tell the story of Cailleach, the wild Goddess of Winter, who emerges each year to mark the end of harvest and the turning of the Celtic year.

Céilis, street processions, fireworks, willow workshops and treasure hunts will retell the ancient Celtic tradition of Cailleach.

A whole host of other community events will take place across the country including Féile Eile in Killorglin, Halloween Howl in Kenmare and the Sneem storytelling festival.

Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Councillor Michael Foley said: “Samhain Chiarraí is about much more than celebrating our past — it’s about bringing families, schools, and communities together to create new memories and experiences. Taking place over the mid-term break, the festival will give children and families the chance to enjoy unique events in towns and villages right across Kerry.”

“From spectacular parades to community gatherings, Samhain Chiarraí will highlight the county’s rich traditions while introducing new and engaging experiences for both residents and visitors. This festival is a chance for Kerry to come together, celebrate our shared heritage, and showcase the warmth and creativity of our communities.”
