The first section of Tralee’s northern relief road will open on Monday, enhancing connectivity in the northern side of the town.

The new 1.25km road will provide greater access to Munster Technological University and to the Tralee Bypass.

Running between the R556 Abbeydorney Road and the Forge Cross Roundabout on the R878, the section will open from around 11am on Monday.

The road includes an adjacent cycleway and walkway along the entire route.

Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Terry O’Brien welcomed the opening of the new road, praising the council for their work on the project.

“This is a very important addition to our local roads infrastructure and will make travel around the northern side of the town much easier for motorists and all road users,” he said.

“I commend the team at Kerry County Council for overseeing the delivery of this important project.”

The next section of the relief road, which runs from the R556 Abbeydorney Road to the Bracker O’Regan Road, is currently at planning stage and is likely to proceed to the statutory consents phase later this year.
