Five Kerry villages set to recieve new bus platforms
The KerrymanFive north Kerry villages are set to receive bus stop platforms with associated poles and signage.
Listowel Municipal District councillors approved plans for bus infrastructure at Abbeydorney, Ballyduff, Ballylongford, Causeway and Moyvane.
It comes after the proposals were put out for public consultation which also included Lixnaw and Tarbert.
However, a number of submissions for the two locations resulted in Kerry County Council needing to undertake further work, and thus they were not included in this tranche of improvements.
Councillor Tom Barry hailed the proposals as ‘good news’ but repeated previous calls for a bus stop at Lixnaw.
He highlighted the use of the bus by local school children, who were waiting outside in all-weather conditions, arguing that it was ‘tough to see’.
The council advised bus shelters required more space than platforms and thus were more difficult to locate.
They said Lixnaw in particular was a ‘complicated’ junction and safe crossing points would also be needed, the council added.
Further bus stops would be proposed by the end of 2026, with a construction to start in next year.
