A Kerry councillor has urged the council to look at stage locations for a popular music festival after local church gathering was interrupted multiple times.

The public car park next to St Mary’s church in Dingle was used as a music stage for the Other Voices festival while Saturday night proceedings were underway.

Councillor Robert Brosnan said he had received complaints from church attendees after the priest had to stop proceedings multiple times, apologising to those in attendance.

He said elected members had no input in stage locations at the festival which will be 25 next year and asked the council to include them in next year’s festival planning.

Other Voices was opened this year on November 29 by former president Michael D Higgins and Myles O’Reilly, with thousands of music revellers filling the town’s bars and venues.

Over 120 artists were heard over the weekend, including headline acts such as Dermot Kennedy, Amble and Sorcha Richardson.

“Other Voices is brilliant for the town but we need to look at where they’re setting up stages for the music,” said Cllr Brosnan.
