The Indo Daily: ‘We saved 14 houses from the sea’ – What climate change looks like in Ireland

By Alan Caulfield, Independent.ie

We Irish have always talked about the weather. It’s our great shared obsession: the small talk, the punchline and the meme that does the rounds when the rain refuses to stop.

However, as increasingly violent storms batter our shores and flood our towns, for many up and down the country, what was once a national pastime has become a source of real anxiety.

It can often feel as though we are powerless in the face of a phenomenon that affects the entire planet, and we are left instead to deal with the mess of the aftermath.

So, what does climate change actually look like on the ground in Irish communities?

And can we keep up with a crisis that’s moving faster than ever?

On today's Indo Daily, Tessa Fleming is joined by Alan Caulfield, assistant news editor with the Irish Independent to examine the real-world impact of climate change across Ireland’s counties, and how we’re equipping ourselves to deal with it.
