Road Safety Message #14

By John Lynch, Ocean FM

Feeling tired behind the wheel can be just as dangerous as other forms of impaired driving. Fatigue can affect concentration, reaction times and decision-making, putting both the driver and other road users at risk.

In our latest road safety message, we look at some simple ways to help stay alert when driving. These include staying hydrated, avoiding heavy meals before or during a journey, and taking a break if you begin to feel drowsy .

There are also a number of technologies in modern cars that can help, including driver-alert systems that monitor signs of tiredness and issue warnings when they detect that a driver may need to take a break.

And if you need a little company on the road, listen to Ocean FM as you travel — but remember, no radio programme can replace the need for a proper rest if you're feeling tired.

The message is simple: if you feel drowsy, don't try to push on. Pull over somewhere safe and take a break.

Listen to the full road safety message below and make sure fatigue doesn't become a danger on your journey.
