Contractor appointed for ‘Learn to Cycle’ facility at Cleveragh
The Sligo ChampionA contractor has been appointed for the provision of a new Learn to Cycle facility at Cleveragh.
Commenting on the news that the tender process has been completed, Cllr Thomas Walsh said, “I recently proposed part 8 planning for the new masterplan at Cleveragh, and I am delighted that the tender process has now been complete for the cycle facility.
"The new Learn to Cycle facility is phase one of the new masterplan which will include a skate park, pump track, learn to cycle facility, car parking, basketball courts, and a MUGA area.”
Speaking about the significance of the Learn to Cycle facility Cllr Walsh remarked, “This is something I have pushed for at Cleveragh for many years now and I welcome that it has taken a key step forward. €112,500 was allocated in November 2025 for the Learn to Cycle facility under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
"The Parks Department in Sligo County Council will now oversee the project which will start in the coming months. It is hoped that a further application for funding will be made for another phase of the plan in the near future.
Cllr Walsh added, “This is an exciting time for outdoor recreation in Sligo as the new outdoor water facilities at Enniscrone and Rosses Point are expected to go to construction later this year as well as a number of trailheads and trail upgrades.”
